NADA x Foreland featuring the work of Aurora Király, 50s or Soft despair
August 28–29, Foreland
11am–8pm at 111 Water Street, Catskill, New York
Called by the New York Times ”the biggest single event this time of the year”, NADA x Foreland is a collaborative weekend exhibition to take place August 28–29, 2021 at Foreland – a new arts campus in upstate New York – featuring artwork installed in a historic industrial building in the center of Catskill, New York. In partnership with Upstate Art Weekend and co-organized with NADA Member Jesse Greenberg of JAG Projects, the exhibition will highlight artworks from the community of NADA, featuring 81 exhibiting galleries, non-profits, and artist-run spaces presenting over 100 artists.
“Aurora Király’s ”50’s or Soft Despair (2020-2021)” series conveys conflict, age, pain and doubt. The dance and theatrical movements of performers including Yvonne Rainer or Mette Ingvartsen fill out the contour of Aurora Király’s body in life-sized padded textile shapes. Either captured in a silent scream or in mid-air leaps, movement is transferred in mute installations, all the more powerful for the recognizable voices stored inside, unspoken, unreactive or under the spell of self-censorship…”
